The types and the effective strategies for prevention of suicide and suicide ideation were discussed. The paper posited that the professional social worker and functional social welfare services be made available in institutions of learning to curb or prevent suicide and suicide ideation and that stakeholders in the academic community and the governments should ensure an enabling environment that would discourage suicide or suicide ideation among students and staff.
