Construction, Validation and Standardization of Mathematics Learning Resources Management Strategies Scale

Mathematics Learning Resources Management Strategies Scale (MLRMSS) was constructed, validated and standardized in this paper. Five research questions were raised. Instrumentation research design was adopted in this study. The population consisted of 188,284 students in Edo State. Six hundred (600) secondary school students made up the sample size. The scale developer modified the MSLQ scale in (Liu & Lin 2010) and generated an initial scale of 74 items with 6 sub-scales (time and study environment, peer learning, help-seeking, exploratory behaviour on the internet, communicative behaviour on the internet and the use of library facilities). The initial scale was validated by experts in Measurement and Evaluation in the Faculty of Education of the University of Benin. After Factor Analysis, items that loaded .30 and above on one and only one factor were retained. Out of the six factors generated in the initial scale, four of them were extracted and 45 items were retained while 29 items were deleted. Reliability coefficients of .94, .79, .75 and .59 were obtained for exploratory behaviour on internet, time management and seeking assistance, extra moral classes & use of library facilities and peer learning respectively. Reliability estimate of .90 was obtained for the entire learning resource management strategies scale. It was recommended that Prospective researchers who want to investigate how students manage their learning resources for studying Mathematics should make use of this scale.
