Women as Agents of Positive Change for Sustainable Community Development in Nigeria

This study investigated women as agents of positive change for sustainable community development in Nigeria. The study employed content analysis with in-depth literature review as methodology. Women are the feminine gender in society. It is through them that the world is populated, industries, government and communities are provided with the workforce. The place of the women is highly important as they help in driving sustainable communities. Sustainable community development is the improvement of the general wellbeing of the present generation without compromising the abilities of the future community members in meeting their own needs. Empirical evidences have shown that women are agents of positive change for sustainable community development. Through their institutions and organizations, women provide social amenities for communities; renovation of town halls, healthcare facilities, renovation of schools and workshop centres, fight against violence and protection for women, providing loans for community entrepreneurs, award of scholarships to children etc. Thus, women have contributed to the economic, social, environmental and health situations of their immediate environment in Nigeria by ensuring sustainable communities. Women are agents of positive change for sustainable community development in Nigeria.
