Innovations in Human Resource Management and Quality Service Delivery of Academic Staff in Universities in Rivers State, Nigeria

Abstract

The study investigated innovations in human resource management and quality service delivery of academic staff in Universities in Rivers State, Nigeria. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted a correlational research design. The population of the study was 337 academic staff of the Faculties of Education in three public Universities in Rivers State (Rivers State University, University of Port Harcourt and Ignatius Ajuru University of Education). The entire population of 337 academic staff was taken as census for the study. The research instruments were self-structured questionnaires titled: “Innovations in Human Resource Management Questionnaire” and “Quality Service Delivery of Academic Staff Questionnaire” The instruments were validated by two experts and reliability of the instrument was established using test-retest method and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to achieve a reliability index of 0.86. The research questions were answered using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient while the null hypotheses formulated were also tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and later transited t-ratio transition at 0.05 level of significance. Findings showed that e-recruitment and use of technology in training as variables of innovations in human resource management have a significant positive relationship with quality service delivery of academic staff of Universities in Rivers State. It was recommended that, university authorities should provide ICT facilities and organize workshops for administrative and academic staff to help them acquire knowledge of information and communication technology in order to enable them utilize ICT devices and software packages for quality service delivery.
