Abstract

The study investigated factors influencing rural women participation in community development projects in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Two research questions and two hypotheses were formulated. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The sample of the study was 394 respondents selected from eleven political wards using proportional sampling techniques. The instrument used for the study was 10 item “Factors Influencing Rural Women Participation in Community Development Projects Questionnaire”. The modified four-point Likert scale type questionnaire was used for data collection. The instrument was duly validated by experts and its reliability coefficient was 0.89. Data collected were analysed using t-test statistic in testing hypotheses at .05 level of significance. The findings from the study revealed that educational level and occupational status significantly influenced participation of rural women in community development projects. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that there should be adequate awareness creation and sensitization to promote adult literacy programmes among various communities by Agency for adult and non-formal Education.
