Effects of Multimedia Instructional Package on Students’ Academic Performance in Biology in Senior Secondary Schools in Rivers State

Abstract

This study investigated the effects of multimedia instructional package on students’ academic performance in Rivers State. The design adopted was quasi-experimental. Two research questions and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The population comprised all senior secondary two biology students in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State. 100 students in two intact classes selected by purposive sampling from two schools in the Local Government Area was used for the study. A 30-item cell division performance test with reliability coefficient of 0.98 was used. Data collected were analyzed using t-test. Findings revealed that there the use of multimedia instructional package significantly enhanced the academic performance of students in Biology. It was recommended, among others, that multimedia instructional package should be adopted in the teaching of cell division concept in senior secondary schools to complement the traditional method of teaching and to improve students’ performance in Biology.
