Awareness of Vocational and Innovation Enterprise Institutions among Teachers and Students in Secondary Schools in Rivers State

Abstract

The study was conducted to find out the awareness of vocational and innovation enterprise institutions among teachers and students in secondary schools in Rivers State. A descriptive survey was utilised in the study. Four research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. The population of the study was all senior secondary school students and teachers in Rivers State. Multistage sampling technique was used in select a sample size of 648 senior secondary students and 69 teachers. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire consisting of 24 questionnaire items titled "Awareness of Vocational and Innovative Enterprise Institutes," designed in the pattern of Likert-5 point rating scale. A reliability coefficient of 0.82 was established for the instrument using Cronbach Alpha. Mean statistics was used to answer research questions while z-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. It was found that level of awareness of vocational and innovation enterprise institutions is low among teachers and students in secondary schools in Rivers state. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that Vocational and Innovative Enterprise Institute should engage secondary school students with awareness programmes that will inform them of the relevance of Vocational and Innovative Enterprise Institutes in Rivers State.
