The Role of Communication in School Plant Management for Effective Administration of Secondary School in Rivers State, Nigeria

The study examined the role of communication in school plant management for effective administration of secondary school in Rivers State. Descriptive research survey design was adopted. The population of the study is 933 principals (311 principals and 622 vice principals) of public senior secondary schools in Rivers State. A sample of 205 principals were selected for the study using proportionate and simple random sampling technique. While Taro Yamane formula was used to determine the sample size of vice principals which was 243. The instrument for data collection was a self-structured questionnaire tagged “Role of Communication in School Plant Management Questionnaire” (RCSPMQ). The instrument was validated by two experts in management and educational foundations respectively. A reliability coefficient of 0.83 was established using Cronbach Alpha. Data collected were analyzed using Mean and Standard Deviation for research question 1 and 2. The study found that communication bridges the gap between under provision and full provision of school plant, the study also found that communication aids in proper placement of staff. Based on the findings, it was recommended amongst others that, the channel of communication for the provision of school plant should be improved so as to continue serving its purpose of proper utilization of school plants.
