Corrupt Practices and Insecurity Challenges on Educational leadership in Lagos State Public Secondary Schools

Abstract

Effective school leadership practices are hampered by corruption and insecurity because learning objectives cannot be met. This study evaluates the effects of corrupt practices, the difficulties they present for academic leadership in Lagos State's public secondary schools, and the strategies for lessening the negative effects of insecurity and corruption on educational leadership in Lagos' public secondary schools. A descriptive survey research design was employed in the study because it allowed the research to describe attributes of the variables in their natural form. The study population comprised all Alimosho Local Government Area teachers of Lagos State. This choice of the local government area lies in being the largest and having expected properties in the study frame. The researcher using purposive sampling identified twenty public secondary schools across Alimosho LGA. With a simple random sampling technique, 15 teachers were selected from the twenty identified public secondary schools to form a sample of 300 participants. A self-structured instrument titled, Corruption and Insecurity Challenges in Educational Leadership Questionnaire (CICELQ) was used for data generation. Content validity was reached by two experts in the Department of Education Management LASUED who validated it. Using the Split-half reliability form, r coefficient of .893 was obtained meaning highly reliable and suitable for the study.  Data collected was analysed through t-test analysis and tested at a .05 significant level. The findings revealed that corruption and insecurity remain two pivotal elements that can impede effective leadership display, especially in the educational sector. The study concluded that insecurity breeds more in an educational system that practices all forms of sharp unprintable malpractices.
